F.A.Q
- WHAT ABOUT SALMONELLA AND OTHER BACTERIA?
Salmonella (and other bacteria such as E. coli) are primarily a risk for humans, not for dogs. A dog's stomach is about four times more acidic than a human's, making it an inhospitable environment for these bacteria. Additionally, E. coli and salmonella can also be found in kibble.
- ARE BONES DANGEROUS FOR MY DOG?
Raw bones are not. Soft and cartilaginous, they do not splinter and are therefore safe for your dog. Additionally, the bones we include in our recipes are first shredded and then crushed.
- CAN I DEFROST THE FOOD IN THE MICROWAVE?
No! Microwaving will cook the meat. If you need to defrost a portion quickly, place it in a sealed "Ziploc" bag and submerge it in cold water for about 15 minutes.
There are different schools of thought and various beliefs regarding the transition method from dry food to raw meat.
- The first method, more commonly used, involves fasting an adult dog for 24 hours or a puppy for 12 hours before switching directly to 100% raw meat. This is an abrupt transition but works for most dogs and puppies with a healthy digestive system.
- The second method is more gradual. According to recent studies, it has a higher success rate than the abrupt method. It involves mixing dry food with raw meat for about four days. On the first day, the meal should be 75% dry food and 25% raw meat. For example, this could mean ¾ cup of dry food and ¼ cup of raw meat. On the second day and following days, increase the raw meat by 25% while decreasing the dry food by 25%.
- – Day 1: ¾ cup of dry food and ¼ cup of raw meat. On a larger scale: 3 cups of dry food and 1 cup of raw meat.
- – Day 2: ½ cup of dry food and ½ cup of raw meat. On a larger scale: 2 cups of dry food and 2 cups of raw meat.
- – Day 3: ¼ cup of dry food and ¾ cup of raw meat. On a larger scale: 1 cup of dry food and 3 cups of raw meat.
- – Day 4: 1 cup of raw meat. On a larger scale: 4 cups of raw meat.
Of course, every dog is different!
Some dogs do well with the abrupt method, while others achieve better results with the gradual method.
Finally, note that you can feed your dog both types of food at the same time. Some owners use both feeding methods and see good results.
